Lizard Point: Cornwall’s Southernmost Adventure

Updated: Oct 13, 2024

This southernmost tip of mainland Britain, offers some of the most breath-taking coastal walks in Cornwall.

Nearest big town: Helston

Duration: Around 2 hours / 3 miles circular route

The rugged cliffs, dramatic seascapes, and abundance of wildlife make it a must-visit for hikers and nature lovers. Keep an eye out for seals and seabirds. I've never seen a seal in its natural habitat but on this gorgeous walks, we've been able to find several. During the summer, vibrant wildflowers add colour to the rugged landscape.

Though the route we took is not entirely accessible, the South West Coast Path around Lizard Point can be an accessible yet still rewarding route. You’ll pass through picturesque coves like Kynance Cove with its turquoise waters, and catch panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean from the cliff tops.

There’s plenty of free parking within the centre of the village itself where the route starts on the map above. There are a few cafes, pub, restaurants and souvenir shops to delight and entertain. Half way through your walk (near label 34 on the map above), you will find the Polpeor Café and its delicious treats - Cornish cream teas, crab sandwiches, fish pie, fresh home made doughnuts with jam - a full all day menu from as early as 09:30am... and then there's the view... also simply gorgeous in every way.

It’s a peaceful, scenic walk where Cornwall’s natural beauty truly shines.
