Herts #29: Albury

Updated: Nov 1, 2024

Wellies on for another walk in one of Hertfordshire's villages and a stop at a wonderful pub.

Nearest town: Bishop's Stortford

Duration: Around 2 hour or flexible

Begin your walk in the village itself, where traditional cottages and quiet lanes set a picturesque scene, then venture out along footpaths that wind through open fields and scenic hillsides.

Albury’s trails are great for all seasons, showcasing wildflowers in spring, lush greenery in summer, and vibrant foliage come autumn. It’s a lovely spot to unwind and immerse yourself in Hertfordshire’s timeless countryside, though don't forget your wellies for the wetter months of winter.

Albury Church was built in the 13th century. There, you can find some really interesting items: the 14th century alter tomb with effigies of a knight and his lady; 15th century rood screen; an 18th century pulpit ; and memorial brasses of the 15th and 16th centuries.
