An accessible, calming city escape, with a beautiful park and plentiful treats.
Nearest town: St Albans
Duration: Around 1 hour or flexible
St Albans is a fantastic place for a walk that blends rich history with scenic green spaces. Huge bonus is that this walk is made perfectly accessible and suits every mobility need.
Start in the historic city centre, where cobbled streets lead you past medieval buildings, charming shops, and cosy cafés. Don’t miss St Albans Cathedral, one of the oldest sites of worship in Britain, with its stunning architecture and peaceful gardens.
From there, stroll over to Verulamium Park, named after the ancient Roman city that once stood here. You’ll find lush lakeside paths, open fields, and even Roman ruins, including mosaics and parts of the old city wall.
For nature lovers, Gorhambury Estate offers beautiful countryside trails nearby.
St Albans combines the best of history and nature, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely day out for families or alone.
With plenty of dog friendly stops for your choosing. My absolute favourite is Home | Ye Olde Fighting Cocks pub, once listed in the Guinness book of records, originally a Pigeon coup used by monks, the original structure has been dated as far as 793AD.
